I Wish I Fixed My Teeth When I Was a Teenager – Is it Too Late for Me?
There are lots of adults who wish that they could improve the appearance of their teeth. Many people have spent years smiling with a closed mouth, or even behind a hand. For some of them, their biggest regret in life is that they didn’t straighten their teeth when they were younger. One of the most amazing benefits of adult orthodontics is how an improvement in someone’s smile can bring about huge changes in their appearance, confidence and attitude.
A Variety of Options
Developments over recent years mean that options previously only available to the rich and famous have become mainstream and affordable. At Sunshine Coast Orthodontics, we offer ‘invisible’ options such as Invisalign™ and Incognito® , allowing people to undertake treatment without anyone else knowing. We also use partial braces and mini implants as an alternative to full braces.
Take Control of Your Oral Health
Another important aspect of adult orthodontics is that we can help improve the long term health of your teeth and gums. Straighter teeth are easier to clean, and therefore easier to preserve, reducing the likelihood of needing dentures in later life.
What are the other options for adults?
Sometimes traditional metal or tooth coloured braces will be the best solution to your needs and circumstances. If the idea of wearing braces as an adult concerns you, it is worth considering the alternative of living the rest of your life with a smile that you don’t like. A relatively short time wearing braces followed by the ability to smile freely without worrying about your teeth seems a small inconvenience. There is also the added benefit of being able to keep your teeth and gums healthy in the long term, as they will be easier to clean.
Dr Short also has extensive knowledge and experience in alternative techniques, such as the use of accelerated orthodontics, mini-implants and partial braces, which can be a suitable alternative to full braces in some cases.
Are Braces Painful?
Braces are rarely painful. The feeling of having some food stuck between your teeth is probably similar to the sensation produced by wearing braces. There maybe a little discomfort associated with the gentle pressure applied to move the position of teeth. This can usually be managed with the use of over the counter painkillers, if required.
How long do braces take to work?
Again, this depends on individual circumstances and the methods used. Usually braces are worn for approximately two years. Our owner Dr. Lesley Short has trained in accelerated orthodontic techniques that can reduce the average time braces need to worn by up to 66%, which means you could be looking at a new smile in as little as eight months.
What do braces cost?
The cost of standard orthodontic braces in Australia ranges from $3,000 to $8,000. Ceramic braces are only marginally more expensive. We can’t tell you how much they would be for your individual circumstances without an individual consultation at the clinic. This is the price of a full set of braces, sometimes a partial brace could be equally as effective, but the costs can be lower. More advanced options such as Incognito® braces are more expensive, between $7,500 and $15,000. After an initial consultation Dr Short will be able to give you a clearer idea about the options available for you and the associated costs.
At Sunshine Coast Orthodontics we offer our clients the opportunity to pay by instalments, with an initial deposit followed by monthly payments. We also accept HICAPS if you have private dental cover.
How Much Do Invisible Braces Cost?
The costs vary considerably depending on what is required in your individual circumstances. For example, the cost of Invisalign™ depends on how many aligners you need. The cost is generally between $3,500 and $12,000. To know for sure, we would need to examine your teeth and discuss if it is the best option for you.
Incognito® lingual braces are widely regarded as a premium product, they are custom made out of gold and are an advanced invisible option for straightening teeth. Prices for Incognito® braces range from $7,500 to $15,000. Each bracket is individually moulded to fit onto the back of your teeth, for the most comfortable and discreet solution to crooked teeth. Lesley is the only Orthodontist in the Noosa Area able to supply and fit Incognito® braces.
